The released Vergence Control relies on a biologically-inspired architecture that exploits a population of cortical-like oriented binocular disparity detectors for efficient vergence control. The disparity detectors are build on the well know BINOCULAR ENERGY MODEL, which provides a computational model of the response of disparity senstitive neurons of V1 area.
The response of each disparity detectors is built as by the squared response of a quadrature pair of Gabor filters. The filter design specifications can be found in this paper
The sensitivity to binocular disparity of different orientations across the image plane and of different magnitude is obtained designing a population of disparity detectors. Such population is designed with filters distributed acorss 8 orientations and 7 phase differences.
