"When I was suggesting multiplayer, I was thinking of people being able just to pop up a window, choose the jar file of a robot they would like to participate with, and enter the competition. After that step is completed, two buttons would pop up: one to join a private game, where you would be able to battle with your friends by choosing their game and typing in an password which only they know and will tell you, and one to join a public game. To join a public game, you should be able to choose 1 v 1 or multiple. Then the server would automatically match a group of bots waiting for a game(by closest codsize) and battle them. You should be able to see, though, how the battle progresses, at a standard rate of about 30 ticks / second. Two tips, though. Interactive robots should not be allowed, and there should be no option to paint your robot's paint outs(as this could cause possible lag).
ps: the hyperlink you sent me is down, and I do not have a source forge account. Can you please post the recommendations?"
