How can you get to the installation screen?? |

Hello, I was just given a ROADNAV S100 with Internet 3G for CHEVROLET CRUZE as a present purchased. I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with: How can you change the time to United States: Eastern Daylight Time ? How can you change the temperature to display Fahrenheit instead of Celsius ? When I use my blue tooth to connect to my car, I can hear the other person on the phone, but when I respond they can not hear me.It seems as if I can not hear any sounds such as my rear view indicator sound no longer makes a noise, nor when I put my turn signal on. Thank you so much. BTW I love it! Lethicia From: lib...@gm... To: let...@ms... Thanks for the reply. The GPS is detected on /dev/USB0 but no GPS is detected by RoadNav as a result. I only use one GPS application at a time. Generally the GPS attaches to a serial port. You should check /dev for ports that appear when the GPS is connected. Go to the settings in RoadNav and set the port to the /dev/??? port and that should do the trick. I think that by default RoadNav tries to talk to the GPS daemon. However the GPS daemon had to be set up separately. I don't have instructions for that; but they should be easy enough to find. The daemon is required if you plan to use more than one GPS application at the same time. Roadnav doesn't detect my GPS (BU-353) even though the settings are for the gps are set to serial/usb. I've tried the other gps detection settings also to no success. Using xgps the gps picks up many satellites. OpenCPN detects the gps too. I am working on a customized system for our township snow removal. I have the sensor for detecting salt flow and I have almost everything working except. I need to be able to get a total distance traveled from a gps track or trace. Is there anyone out there who can help me out with writing a script to run to accomplish this? I am not a programer and would appreciate any help possible. |

I was wondering what the possibility of getting a version for OS2008? I think this software would be great for the N810 with it's built in GPS. |

Friends, I will need to travel to some states that had not been previously downloaded into my system, so I attempted the manual work-around for the current download problem. What I did was: o. Manually download the GNIS files from their web site o. Unzip them, renamed the ASCII file with its historic name, and rezipped the archive to its historic name. o. Placed them in http_cache/ This *seemed* to work: The GNIS files were picked up and added to datalist.txt, I was able to select the needed cities by name and download their county's TIGER files with no problem, and I can 'Set Address' at will into these new states. However: None of the GNIS features for these newly loaded states show up on the displayed maps. No city names nor Physical Features are shown, although these items still display fine for the adjoining states that had been downloaded previously automatically by Roadnav. Am I missing something? Thanks. Mitch |

I understand triangulation - I just don't see how it applies to a GPS device/progrram very well. With a GPS, it would seem much easier (and ultimately more beneficial) to do: 1. Move a cursor to a point, then click "navigate to here". This isn't any different than normal navigation, it's just that you might need to extend the existing software a bit so that it allows you to pick a point with a cursor, instead of entering an address or POI. I've already got a Garmin handheld GPS that performs this very function (my in-vehicle GPS units don't, and I wish they did). 2. Off-road? Wouldn't it be better to integrate DEM/topo data into the program, allowing you to see a topo map, then use method 1 above? This would seem much more preferable, allowing the possible integration of both road data and topographic data at the same time. There are several GPS programs that already have this ability (like google maps with their "terrain" view). Again, I've got some software that allows me to create my own maps (road and topo, or both) for my Garmin, download them to the Garmin and use that. Triangulation to a point means you've got to travel some distance along a baseline to get your azimuth to the target. Obviously, the longer the distance between your two base points, the more accurate your azimuth to the "target". Being a lazy fellow, I'd prefer the two solutions I mentioned above, and getting there "more directly", rather than extending my baseline for triangulation ;o) |

This is very helpful for passengers "out of road" on hills, mounts, country sites or in the sea. With two measurements (from two different points) of the azimuth angle you have the Real Position of a point and the possibility to navigate to this point. > Keep in mind that the trunk is rather out of date, so I would recommend > patching against the code for the wx3 branch of roadnav/libroadnav from > http://roadnav.sourceforge.net/downloads.php. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. One of my goals in the current rewrite is to (hopefully) massively reduce the amount of RAM and CPU that Roadnav uses, by using smarter data structures and etc. Of course... I personally don't have any mobile devices, but I'm sure someone can adapt the code if its lean enough. Dustin -- Innovation is just a problem away |

>>> > We work on adding in Roadnav > > 1.) Triangulation > 2.) Reverse comunication (Sending in a TCP port Current GPS point or > Last visited Waypoint - one time or repeated times) > > Your opinion? > > Corfiot Well, I'll chime in here - but in my opinion it would be much better to get the "basics" working before worrying about adding new "gee whiz" features. I'd really like to use Roadnav, but the Tiger dataset just keeps me from using it. Using OpenStreetMap is a much better alternative. My own preference would be to get the basic rewrite accomplished, using the new framework and using OpenStreetMap, releasing that, then getting the bells and whistles. The above two features I can see no use for, except in a cell phone, or narrow/vertical applications. I don't know what triangulation does for me if I've got a GPS. Triangulation has been used historically as an "approximation" of my location. With a GPS I don't have an approximation. A cellphone without GPS, maybe you want to triangulate cell towers - other than that, I can't think of much use for. I have no care to let others know where I am, and if I do, I'll email them, or phone them. Most of my uses for a GPS leave me with no wifi, so again, without using this in a cellphone application, I don't know what it does for me. I also think a WinCE port would be EXTREMELY beneficial. I've got a couple of WinCE NET 4.2 devices that I've tried some other navigation software on. I think a perusal of a couple of forums would show how much in demand an open-source navigation software would be with these GPS devices going for less than $100/USD these days. |

Hello All. Am new to Roadnav, but have been running a car pc with GPS for last 5 years. Came from Micro**** and Routis/iGuidance and am now using Ubuntu 8.04. Everything works fine in Roadnav. Are there any updates to the time frame for the update for the maps. I really miss the routing feature. Thanks, Sam |
