Your current buildsystem doesn't support basic things like CPPFLAGS, CLFAGS, LDFLAGS. It also has a long proprietary ./configure script. It would be nice to see a simpler pair of a single configure.ac and Makefile.am file and let the autodetection routines be those common to other packages which use autotools.
I have tested the attached patch with prefix installs on both Mac OS X and Gentoo. It depends on autoconf-archive for the AX_WITH_CURSES macro.
Just use ``autoreconf -vfi'' after aplying the patch to rhapsody-0.28b.
Comments and criticisms gladly accepted ;-). A sample dist tarball I rolled is, for some time, accesesible at http://ohnopub.net/~ohnobinki/tmp/rhapsody-0.28b.tar.gz . If you do not want to install autoconf archive, you may grab the dist tarball and just copy the ax_with_curses.m4 file from its m4/ directory into the m4/ directory that the attached patch creates.
