#1 separate terminal?

No

Is it possible to do whatever rgedit does right now without embedding the terminal inside gedit? I.e., have gedit (with rgedit) running separately and terminal running in a separate window with just the code being piped to the session running in the terminal. Reason I'm asking is that with a smallish widescreen, vertically challenged laptop monitor I want to run the code and the R session (output) side-by-side rather than one-on-top-of-another. Gives me better screen real-estate management. I know Tinn-R has something like this on Windows but wasn't sure if there is something like this already in Gedit that can be used under linux.
Once again, this is a great add-on and has made my life much easier under GNOME/LinuxMint.

Thank you for your suggestion -- it seems really useful :)
I have added this feature in v0.5 and I hope it is close to what you suggested.
    Best,
    Dan

Thank you for the really quick update! Have posted below on the ubuntu forums too but just wanted to get this by you on this site as well...

"One quirk I noticed with the latest version. If I enable the 'start R console detached' option in the plugin and keep the 'start R console automatically' disabled, the console window that opens up when I start R is greyed out completely...does not display the output. R is still working though, I'm able to call objects from the workspace using code (e.g. showData brings up the dataset using Tcl/Tk) but am unable to see the output on the console. This does not happen if both the 'start R console automatically' AND 'start R console detached' options are left unchecked. Of course, that means the user has to manually detach the console each time the plugin is used. For me, its no problem at all since I usually start this once in a day and keep it running throughout the day but just something that you can look into.

BTW, I'm using Linux Mint 7 (32 bit) with compiz enabled."

oops...forgot to mention....this is exactly what I had in mind with the separate terminal feature. So thank you...you hit the nail spot on :)

I hope this is fixed in 0.6, but please test it as well :)
Also, I fixed some issues with enabling/disabling menu items and I added a menu entry for closing down R console completely.
