I have an AOpen 1555 laptop and I have both the ndiswrapper and the Intel ipw2100 correctly running under a debian thanks to the acerhk driver.
I added the following line in the modprobe.d directory and load the acerhk module before the ipw2100 driver o ndiswrapper driver:
options acerhk force_series=2000 usedritek=1 autowlan=1
install acerhk (modprobe --ignore-install acerhk && echo "on" > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled) || echo "Check /etc/modprobe.d/acerhk to see what went wrong"
If you look carefully at it, I make modprobe automatically echo the "on" or at least log an error message.
I hope this will help someone,
I'll add it in the laptop matrix page.
