A few days ago I downloaded rescuezilla-2.5.1-64bit.noble.iso. Since that time my PC is corrupted with an advertisement for RescueZilla which is displayed when my system (Mint 22.1) enters 'screensaver' mode. Needless to say I am extremely displeased with this behaviour. How do I delete this corruption?
I did an image search of the screenshot you provided using "Google Lens", and it 100% appears the thumbnail of the following YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIJbqcHmi10) :
From the photos you uploaded, and the one I've just downloaded from the YouTube video above, notice in the bottom right-hand corner is the the exact same logo as that video's YouTube uploader, with the words "PhazerTech":
I don't know how a YouTube video thumbnail has ended up as your screensaver.
I would imagine it was a matter of accidentally selecting the image as your screensaver.
But maybe you have a program that selects various screensavers automatically and it has picked out a video file from your computer?
Separately, general background of Rescuezilla -- it's a fully open-source with each release created with complete transparency directly from a specific source-code version "tag" through the widely trusted automation infrastructure of Microsoft's GitHub, known as GitHub Actions. Users can see the official Rescuezilla images created by github-actions here https://github.com/rescuezilla/rescuezilla/releases (which are linked from https://rescuezilla.com), and are free to audit the source code.
Thanks for spending your time in an investigation. The problem has been removed - by restarting my computer (seriously!), although this doesn't explain how I got here. I am now quite sure, after discussion with PhazerTech, that they are not responsible in anyway for what happened. Lets called this topic 'closed'

I am renaming this thread from "Malware placed on my PC by RescueZilla" to "Linux Mint screensaver set to YouTube video thumbnail (formerly titled 'Malware placed on my PC by RescueZilla')" to keep the forum tidy.
