I downloaded the latest live image rescuezilla-2.4.2-64bit.jammy.iso
I downloaded balenaEtcher and flashed an external hard drive connected
via USB, and used the above .iso
I'm trying to reboot and I repeatedly press F8 or F12 or press ESC and
nothing is making it boot from USB, Windows just loads normally.
I'm using an MSI laptop and typically I have to press the FN button to get
the F keys to work normally and not do their secondary function so I've
tried that also and it's not helping. So I tried both ways.
Do you have any other advice for me please? Thanks!

Ok when I use FN + F12 together I get the following
Checking media presence
No media present
Not sure what to do next, maybe it has to do with the way the image was added?

I downloaded and used that BalenaEtcher and it screwed 2 128 gig flash disks...making 2 unrequested partitions I could not get rid of. So I downloaded RUFUS and it successfully cleaned both flash drives and successfully formatted then, then successfully created 2 Rescuezilla flash drives....so if I were you, I'd ditch BelenaEtcher and go back to RUFUS....
BUT....getting into your BIOS and/or a boot menu FROM BIOS has nothing to do with whether a utility like BalenaEtcher or RUFUS created a flash drive. I had to go into my Lenovo Legion BIOS and disable "Secure Boot" and change from "EFI" only to "EFI/Legacy," THEN those options came up and I could boot either flash disk no problem.....if you have "Secure Boot" turned on it ignores ANYTHING but a "Safe" installation of Windows on your hard drive. Maybe somebody else here can add more detail or correct me, but that's what worked for me.

Jeff here again....just remembered....in RUFUS, do "ALT-E" when you open RUFUS and it automatically adds the option of type of boot environment, "EFI +Legacy" or something like that, when creating the bootable flash disk, otherwise, the default formatting mode is EFI only and the flash will be ignored as "Unsecure", but all of that is after you adjust the settings in your own BIOS.

Hey Jeff, thank you so much! I didn't think anyone'd answered my question yet your answers were really helpful! I'm going to give them a try soon
