locks up at 86.86% completed of /dev/nvme0n1p7.ext4-ptcl0img.gz onto usb stick, worked before

This is a mystery. It worked before. Now, Rescuezilla locks up at the point mentioned in the subject header of this post. Failure repeated exactly on the second try after reboot.

There is plenty of room on the usb stick. I have 64gigs of ram.
When attempting to close Rescuezilla window, I get a window that says:
The window "Rescuezilla" does not seem to be responding. Do you want to force it to exit by sending the terminate signal? With two buttons: Cancel, End Process
When I move that window, it leaves a black trail.
I poked around in the /var/log directory looking for clues, but I don't know what to look for. I have attached a tar.gz of the entire /var/log directory.
Can anyone help with this?

Never mind. I underestimated the amount of space needed, and was running out.
