Backup in a single file

Hi, can rescuezilla make a disk backup (not clone) to a single file instead
a folder with some many other files on it.

The purpose is to have this single file easily upload it to the cloud for
    backup.

    Thank you

I'd like to (and intend to), but doing so would also break Clonezilla's ability to restore backups created by Rescuezilla, and would introduce a new image format that Rescuezilla would then need to support for all future versions of Rescuezilla.

Each open-source backup tool has introduced their own image formats (sometimes multiple times), so I'm trying to avoid diverging from Clonezilla's format as much as possible until strictly necessary.

I'm very open to it, but it does makes sense to introduce a new single-file image format to Rescuezilla.

Specifically there is a user-request to backup and restore encrypted drives efficiently (currently Rescuezilla only supports backup/restore/cloning of encrypted drives in a very space inefficient way that is slower that it would be if the drive was decrypted first). This requires the need additional metadata in the backup image, which diverges from Clonezilla's image format.

Clonezilla's image format can have files/data missing in some complicated combinations. Clonezilla handles it through generally riding through errors that can sometimes be easy for a user to miss. But even with a more strictly defined image format, Rescuezilla will need to support all images Clonezilla generates forever.

If and when Rescuezilla introduces a new single-file format, it will probably initially as a secondary image format, and (over several releases) eventually made it the default/primary Rescuezilla image format -- even if that breaks Clonezilla compatiblity. Setting the new image format as default would certainly be a major semantic-version release. ie, a "Rescuezilla 3.y.z" release.

thanks for the detailed answer. I really hope that you somehow implement this.
At this point i .rar the folder without any compression (just store option) so that it ends fast. (90GB of folder). That is my only way and then i upload it on the cloud.
