#120 Sections saved to External Database Will not Load or Save after 2.8g

All reports created under 2.8g and earlier that used sections saved to an external database will not load or save in 2.9b or 3.0pre. The database is Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The database driver in use is Microsoft DAO (the Net2 driver doesn't work at all). Trying to load a section from external database brings up an error "Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another"

However, viewing the properties of the external database shows that all the various tables and columns are loaded correctly into the dialog box.
