I'd like to help the development, it's been stagnant for years, and new forms of abuse are becoming apparent. |

I noticed it was redirecting to a porn site months ago and assumed it had expired. inim says you still own it until Jul-2006, and it looks to me like that is correct. ping fibscommunity.org resolves to 66.254.118.231, which is rwhois.reflected.net:4321. port 4321 a coincidence or a fibster calling card? Just thought it was weird. Dana ___________________________________________________ Try the New Netscape Mail Today! I hardly play on fibs any more, and can't be bothered to get into a debate either with Patti or on FibsBoard. Is there an easy way to have people only be able to vouch or complain for someone they've played recently? Otherwise reducing it to just allowing the Friends option and listing Saved Games seems a reasonable solution. The only problem I see with the restriction to Friends is that you don't see any affect until you've voted for a few people. Or what about having a minimum experience to vote that is quite high, say 1000? That would mean playing yourself over ten 99ptrs to get the exp to vouch, a major hassle to reduce the problem Patti is complaining about. The small feature I've always wanted is that Repbot reminds me whether I've vouched or complained for someone when I ask it. I simply can't remember the hundreds of people I've played, and the List feature is just too long. But this is pretty minor. Alef |

[alef, copying your last known good address since you appear to keep changing them] After a long period of inactivity, I'm thinking of implementing a new feature, and would like to solicit your opinions thereof. My motivation is to give the old trigger finger a rest: I'm using JavaFIBS, and must query RepBot for each outgoing and incoming invite. Although I have programmable buttons that make the job easier, I'm a lot lazier than that. The thinking here is that the number of active droppers is fairly low, so if RepBot can announce droppers when I log in, or when they log in, I can accept and issue invites without fear of being dropped and without the need to consult with RepBot. Here's how a sample session might go: ** You tell RepBot: help beware ** RepBot says: 'tell RepBot beware saved <number> and|or reputation <rep>' ** RepBot says: this asks RepBot to inform you when users with saved games above <number> ** RepBot says: and/or (specify one) reputation below <rep> log in. You may specify just one ** RepBot says: of the conditions, or both, according to preference. Bots will not be reported ** RepBot says: even if they match the criteria. ** RepBot says: 'tell RepBot beware off' ** RepBot says: turns off the beware feature. ** RepBot says: NOTE: please do not shout out user reputations to alert other players. ** You tell RepBot: beware saved 10 or reputation -15000 ** RepBot says: RepBot will alert you when users that match your criteria are logged in. *** You are disconnected [...] Welcome avik! ** RepBot says: beware: dropper1, dropper2 are logged in. [...] dropper3 logs in. ** RepBot says: beware: dropper3 has just logged in. [...] ** You tell RepBot: beware off ** RepBot says: RepBot will not alert you about potential droppers. [end sample session] It might be particularly useful if clients integrate this feature and show "bewared" users in a different color or something. So, I'd like your opinions re: - is this a useful feature? maybe with other clients it is unnecessary (I think some handle incoming invites just fine). - are there perhaps more useful features which should be implemented before? - anything else? Thanks, - Avi |

Keep it simple? Maybe RepBot says: avik's reputation is 105400(GOOD) (1 saved game); you have vouched for avik though I find it a bit cluttered (and it provides less information). the squashed spider will definitely bring some huh?!s. |

Because I've vouched for so many people I've found a few times that I've used the friends command and then later after the match when vouched realized I'd already voted for this person previously. Should the friends also include yourself? Or should there even be a particular marker for ask/list/friends when you've already vouched for them? For example a # symbol: You tell RepBot: a avik RepBot says: avik's reputation is 105400(GOOD) (1 saved game)# You tell RepBot: l avik RepBot says: avik's complainers: arya RepBot says: avik's vouchers: alef#, alexandros, burper, cathal, cht, CornCob, cyan, Dutchie, EddieVedd, Guetz, HumanIAm, isaone, jimbo, jrham, jujubeez RepBot says: avik's vouchers (cont'd): KevinB, MadMatt, maestro, noodle, Pipster, rodr, spielberg, trueman RepBot says: avik's complaints: alonzohar, benzion, csg, mayush, otaku RepBot says: avik's vouches: alef#, badass, cht, EddieVedd, isaone, peachy, saab, slw, storm RepBot says: avik has 1 saved game. You tell RepBot: f avik RepBot says: avik complainers: [] vouchers: [alef#, Dutchie, EddieVedd, HumanIAm, MadMatt, burper, cht, cyan, jrham, maestro, noodle, rodr, spielberg] (1 saved game) Maybe an extra symbol would cause confusion not needed. Keep it simple? -Alef |

Posts appear without being screened but moderators can edit them later and give "warnings" to posters, this is how webrunner has set up the whole board. Both burper and I have been made moderators. Avi & burper, The newly renamed www.fibsboard.com is building up as a central place for everything not on fibs.com. What do you think of having a forum there for RepBot help instead of the current mailing list? Means more people will read the queries so less likely to get repeat questions (though it is a quiet list). Also joins RepBot into the "community" more. We could also have the homepage at www.fibsboard.com/repbot or even at both locations? An advantage is that many clients don't allow cut and paste so it's much easier as a URL you can shout and people remember. Happy new year, Alef |

Due to the recent barrage of user emails to repbot-devel, I've created a new list, repbot-users. A new list serves the following purposes: - separation of development traffic from user traffic - a more natural email address for repbot-users - reply-to set by default to the poster instead of the list Those wishing to monitor (and respond to) repbot-users can subscribe at https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/repbot-users. When replying to a user, please be sure to CC rep...@li..., so users won't be flooded by multiple almost identical replies from numerous RepBot caretakers. Alef, might I trouble you to update RepBot's home page to reflect the new world order? - Avi |
