Renegade Project to use Java

Originally, Corey Snow had intended to develop the new version of Renegade using C/C++. After some research and discussion, the decision has been made to implement Renegade in Java instead.

The reasons for this are several, but the primary one is ease and speed of development. Java has come a long way in recent years and can now be said to be ready for primetime. This decision will also make it much easier to provide cross-platform support, and will hopefully limit the number of platform-specific distributions that will be necessary.
