Hello Hendrik Jan Runhaar,
I've tried to reach you through info@4x4software.nl and the webform, but received errors. Hoping opening a ticket will get your attention.
I'm Michael Tsao, a member of the Project of Open Source Software (OSS) for School funded by the Ministry of Education in Taipei, Taiwan. The project initiative is to promote a better understanding and application of OSS in Taiwanese academic community.
My team and I think RekenTest is a great software and would like to localize it for the Taiwanese community free of charge.
Would you allow us to translate the software interface into Chinese (Traditional) language?
If the answer is yes, would you be able to provide us with some guidance on how to translate the software? We've only had experience translating software that uses .ts or .po files.
Lastly, would it be possible to give us credit for the translation on the website or in the software itself.
Hope to hear back from you soon. Thank you and have a great day!
Kind regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your offer to translate the software and for your effort to get in touch.
You can find all the technical details about translating the software in the documentation, please refer to http://www.4x4software.nl/rt/help/appg_language.html
In summary you'll need to edit a single ini-file in a text-editor and load this file as a custom language. Besides this language file there also important texts like the setup texts.
Please verify that RekenTest can display Chinese characters correctly before translating the full file. You can do this by translating a few highly visible captions and load these in RekenTest.
Please note that I abandoned developing the software a few years ago. If you complete the translation I can consider releasing a new version with your language file included. Of course I will credit you for the translation.
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar
Hi Hendrik,
We've completed language file (TW.lng) and some of the setup texts (RekenTest_translation.txt). We won't be able to translate the website info or the installation text prompts at this moment in time.
We did encounter two issues and hope you would be able to help us with it:
1. Some of words don't show up even though it's translated in the language file (see error1.png
2. When we are taking a test in a session the divide symbol doesn't show up (see error2.png).
Here is the link to all the files:

Thank you so much and have a great day!
Kind regards,
Michael

Hello Hendrik,
Just want to touch base with you to see if you were able get a chance to take a look at my previous post. Hope you have a great weekend! Thank you!
Kind regards,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Sorry for the delay, it has been pretty busy. I've found some problems with your file and I think I can fix the file for you.
I will get back to you later this week.
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar
Hi Michael,
With this post you'll find an .lng file which fixes the first error, now all translated captions will show. I have also attached a diff screenshot to show the changes. The values in section [Constant categories] should not be changed, as they refer to other section names below.
Note that an ini-file uses a key=value structure per line, so a value cannot contain enters, I removed a few.
The missing decimal symbol could be invisible because it is a non-ASCII character which is a different symbol in the ANSI codepage you use. You can customize the value in the "Organziation" page. Click Extra -> Organization and then tab Regional Settings (see screenshot).
Can you please verify that the lng-file with my fixes works correctly?
Could you also specify who I should credit for the translation?
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar
Hi Hendrik,
I'll try to test out the new TW_fixed.lng file and let you know what I see. Thank you so much for the reply and assists with the translation file.
Credit should go to:
Distance Learning Center at the Chinese Culture University through the Open Source Software for School project.
Hi Hendrik,
I've tested out the new TW_fixed.lng file and everything seems to look good. Could you please go ahead and make a new release?
We need to give a final report to the Taiwan Ministry of Education next week so if you could please create the new release as soon as possible and then let us know. Thank you so much!
I've included a Taiwan flag icon, just in case you need it.
Credit should go to:
Distance Learning Center at the Chinese Culture University through the Open Source Software for School project.
Have a great day!
Hi Michael,
To prepare for a new release I need one more translation, it's on line 101 in file TW_fixed2.lng:
mniLangChineseTaiwan.Caption=&Chinese (Taiwan)
Please note that releasing a new version is a lot of work, the required code change still needs to be done. Also the setup, the documentation and the website need to be updated. I cannot do all this just before Christmas.
But what I can do is publish the language file as a separate download and credit you for that on the website. This way the translation will be published with a minimum of work. Is that sufficient for you?
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar

Hi Hendrik,
I've attached the updated .Ing file.
"But what I can do is publish the language file as a separate download and credit you for that on the website. This way the translation will be published with a minimum of work. Is that sufficient for you?"
Yes, that would be great! Please send me the url that contains the credit info when you've had a chance to update the website.
Kind regards,
Michael
Hi Michael,
I have just updated the website and published the language file. You can find the credits at http://www.4x4software.nl/english/index.html
Somewhere in the future I will create a new release with a menu-item for the new language.
Thanks a lot for this translation.
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar
Hi Hendrik,
Thank you so much for giving us credit and updating the website with the language file. We really appreciate the help and glad we can contribute. Looking foward to seeing the new release when you get a chance to publish it. Take you're time and have a wonderful Christmas!
Kind regards,
Michael
Hi Michael,
I just released version 4.4.1 which contains a menuitem for your translation to Chinese (Taiwan).
Do you have suggestions for Taiwanese websites which I can ask to link to my software?
Best regards,
Hendrik Jan Runhaar
