Regulator can't differentiate \( and \) literal parenthesis characters from grouping parentheses. This causes it to incorrectly highlight non-matching parentheses.

In addition to not handling hilighting, it causes an "index out of bounds" error when matching text containing literal '(' and ')' characters.
