Hi, I'm a newbie in using REXX in a win environment, so 'scuze my ignorance.

I'm wanting to use some kind of GETURL type command to retrieve a webpage, and then to use nomal regina commands to parse through the webpage to get the info I want.

Can someone give me some pointers on where to start?

Is there a regina version which will do this? Or is there an addon I need to get? I'm running on a Win Me system.

    Many thanks,

    Steve

What you want is Rexx/CURL. See http://rexxcurl.sf.net

Since you are a self-professed 'newbie', I am going to suggest that you obtain a copy of one of the numerous freely-available command programs which will obtain a web page, such as GETHTTP.EXE (look for these on download sites such as TuCows).  The command can easily be invoked from REXX as any other command would be:

      'GETHTTP www.ibm.com index.htm >IBM_home.htm'

This example will retrieve the IBM home page and save it as a file.  You can then use standard REXX I/O commands to access this file, then parse it as you need.

REXX/cURL was also suggested, and while it is a very nice package, it may simply be overkill for your short-term needs.  It is certainly something you will find useful in the long term.

        Bob,
No way to delete an individual posting :-(

Since you are a self-professed 'newbie', I am going to suggest that you obtain a copy of the command-line version of CURL (from http://curl.haxx.se/\).  Note:  there are numerous functionally similar, freely-available command programs which will obtain a web page, such as wget, fget, snarf, fetch, etc (look for these on download sites such as TuCows), although .  These commands can easily be invoked from REXX as any other command would be:

      'CURL http://www.ibm.com/index.htm >IBM_home.htm'

This example will retrieve the IBM home page and save it as a file (IBM_home.htm).  You can use standard REXX I/O commands to access this file, then parse it as you need.

REXX/cURL was also suggested, and while it is a very nice package, it may simply be overkill for your short-term needs.  It is certainly something you will find useful in the long term.
