Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4500842 By: rjrelander Version 0.0.5 has been released. Not too much different but this will be the first that we put together a release in about six years. See release notes for details. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4500835 By: rjrelander Looks like everything is back to normal. I had to completely uninstall Visual Studio 2005 and reinstall it again. Not really sure what happened. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4496703 By: rjrelander Somehow I screwed up my Visual Studio 2005 installation on my laptop development system. It may be a while before I can do builds under Visual Studio on the laptop. Until then, I will be doing development on the desktop system with Eclipse. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4496696 By: rjrelander Final cleanup for release of version 0.0.5 is being performed. This is essentially a maintenace release with the new project structure and a few feature enhancements. If anyone has anything that needs to be merged, please do so now. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4487753 By: rjrelander I will be needing assistance in developing the client server protocol for Regimental Command. I also need some input on what can be leveraged from other open source projects. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4485347 By: rjrelander The common and network packages have mostly been converted over to a new coding convention. At some point, I will come up with an official coding convention document. For now, use these two packages as an example. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4483559 By: rjrelander I have installed and am using svn2log.py to automate the creation of ChangeLog files. Currently, SourceForge does not have an svn hook to run the script manually. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. The structure of the project is changing. It may be a while before it will compile under Linux and gcc. If anyone feels like maintaining the makefiles and knows how to handle shared libraries, please contact me. - Randi |

Welcome everybody. I updated the project home page to include a developer page and also updated the source documentation to match the CVS snapshot. For those who have not submitted a developer bio, they are not required but I think they are a good way to get to know each other. I currently have most of you listed under "developer" as a project role, please let me know if you want to change roles. Please post any thoughts and ideas you may have on this list. I am not going to be making any specific project assignments at this time. The goal is to come up with a modular set of libraries (LGPL?) that can be used together or individually to create a variety of turn-based and real-time wargames. In addition to full game implementations, this also includes using it to experiment with different types of AI, rules systems, scripting languages, user interfaces, etc. I am currently separating the system into Game and Player objects. Unit placement and basic movement will probably be in the next release. I am also looking into client and server-side proxies for networked multi-player support. There is a list of ideas posted in the DocManager section of the SourceForge project page at http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=4828. Feel free to add to the list or pick an item and start putting some thoughts together. - Randi Regimental Command Generic Armored Combat System http://regcom.sourceforge.net |

I finally got syncmail up and running. Records of all cvs commits are now automatically mailed to the reg...@li... mailing list. Subscribe to this list if you are interested in keeping track of things as they are happening. I also updated the cvsroot/regcom/regcom/docs directory and added the doxygen support files. - Randi Regimental Command Generic Armored Combat System http://regcom.sourceforge.net |

This is an edited re-post (for the archives) of a discussion between Randi J. Relander (RJR) and Frank van Wijgerden (FvW). FvW> RegCom and the sources are currently under the GPL license. FvW> Could the framework move to the LGPL license (version 2.1 as FvW> described at http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html to FvW> allow in-house development and deployment? RJR> There have been several requests for an LGPL release of RJR> regcom. The biggest problem is that most LPGL projects are RJR> C and regcom is C++. One of the few LPGL/C++ projects is RJR> the CrystalSpace 3D Engine (http://crystal.sourceforge.net). RJR> They use something called "Shared Class Facility" (SCF) RJR> which they developed themselves and is kind of like COM on RJR> Windows. RJR> The general problem is trying to make a dynamic C++ library RJR> that works across different platforms and compilers. If I RJR> can get SCF to work, this will probably lead to an LGPL RJR> release of regcom. It doesn't look trivial. FvW> So, the C++ library needs to be a "dynamic C++ library" in FvW> order to be able to use the approach described in option B FvW> of article 6 in the LGPL version 2.1 license: dynamically FvW> link with the LGPL libraries used (that is: SDL and the FvW> "RegCom framework library"), and then include the source FvW> code of the LGPL libraries and appropriate notices. RJR> Yup. Actually, there appears to be another way around it. RJR> It looks like if you provide your object files and someone RJR> else can link them against a different version of the RJR> regcom library, then the LGPL "might" be satisfied. FvW> In my opinion, that would satisfy option A of article 6 FvW> in the LGPL version 2.1 license (source OR object code). FvW> One could also opt for option C, which is to provide the FvW> same as option A (source OR object code) but only when FvW> requested. The objective of both A and C is that the user FvW> can modify the library and then relink to produce a FvW> modified executable. Option B (shared library concept) is FvW> also providing the user with this capability: replacing the FvW> shared library with an updated one. FvW> I think we could try to move RegCom from a GPL application FvW> into a LGPL library and a (few) test application(s). The FvW> Crystal Space project (see above), with the SCF concept, and FvW> the ParaGUI (http://www.bms-austria.com/projects/paragui) FvW> project could serve as starting points. |
