#108 Macbook Pro EFI help

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro 17" and the fans are on full at startup. An Apple service tech told me that the monitor temperature sensor was malfunctioning and I needed a new display ($800). I am not a programmer so do not know the shell commands to make modifications the the EFI but I know someone who might. Is it possible to disable the display sensor in the EFI and, if so, how is that done?
