Since installing new Apple USB keyboard [silver], I can't interact with rEFIt interface at boot. I can only wait for selected partition to boot. No mouse, no keys, USB seems dead, which is not true, since rebooting with alt key down will give you Apple choice of boot partitions.

The aluminum Apple keyboard works fine with my 24" C2D iMac. I'll give it a try on my first-generation CD MacBook Pro.

I have this problem too, on my Mac Mini - at first I thought it was because I had the keyboard plugged into a hub, but there was no change when plugging directly into the Mini.

Further to my comment from 2008-02-13: further testing suggests it may be the keyboard which is causing the problem, not rEFIt. The Apple keyboard is no longer working with the standard Apple startup options (such as C for CD boot, ALT for boot manager, etc) either. A different, non-Apple, USB keyboard works with the standard Apple stuff OK (haven't tested rEFIt yet). I'll test the alt. keyboard with rEFIt ASAIC.

I've tested an aluminum keyboard (product ID 0x0221) on my early-2006 MacBook Pro, and can confirm that it doesn't work in rEFIt on that generation of Intel Macs. The hub in the keyboard works, but the keyboard itself doesn't. It's a mystery to me why it doesn't work. The 'USB Prober' tool shows that it advertises the same set of USB HID-Boot and HID profiles as the older white Apple keyboards (product ID 0x020c). The aluminum keyboard works fine on a iMac Core 2 Duo (aluminum enclosure).
I'm afraid that means this is a defect in Apple's firmware on the first generation of Intel Macs, and will have to be fixed by Apple, not me. I'll add this as a known issue to rEFIt's troubleshooting documentation.

Same here. I have a new Core 2 Duo mac mini. This works fine with the aluminum keyboard. The older intel mac mini does not work.

I have this same issue. When using a standard "clear" Apple USB keyboard, I can select the boot OS in rEFIt 0.11 on my Mac mini fine. Then I purchased one of the new silver ultrathin keyboards and it doesn not work at all until rEFIt has booted into the default OS. I hope this issue gets resolved fairly soon, because I really would like to use my silver thin keyboard with the Mac mini!
I have the same issue too. :(
I have a similiar issue but I solved connecting the keyboard directly to the imac ( it was on a usb hub )
Hope it helps!
Seconded. Also see this issue with a new Apple USB keyboard. Old Apple Bluetooth keyboard has no issue (except for the sticky spilt coffee stuck under all of the keys which was the reason for the new USB keyboard...)
