Since I upgraded to Lion, the rEFIt selection does not work properly anymore. It works for OS X, but selecting Windows or Linux on my triple boot setup, it boots the one of the two that was last booted via Apple's boot selector (holding option key), even if OS X was booted by Apple's selector in the meantime. Currently I'm chainloading Windows via GRUB on the Linux partition, which works but surely isn't optimal.
Seems to me like Lion brought some firmware update with it that broke rEFIt, since reverting back to Snow Leopard didn't solve the problem.

I'm running a 2008 Mac Pro and tried everything I could think up, including resetting PRAM and NVRAM.

You have more than one hard drive with a legacy OS on it. You need to use a version of rEFIt that will tell the BIOS which hard drive to boot. The source code has code in it to do that but the binary download doesn't include it so I compiled the source code myself:

Hi, thank you very much for that fix, it seems to work nicely.
