Hi. I'm new to mac (just inhreated a 2009 imac) and relatively new to Linux but I'm lookig to possibly do something possibly fairly similiar, however rEFInd on the mac booting to a Linux efi external usb drive (or possibly even a BIOS ext. usb drive).
I'm not sure about why you'd use 32 bit efi, why not 64 bit for everything? In any case you might want to take a look here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=287353. In this aticle the guy covers a method of installing rEFInd on a usb drive which might help you.

Hi George, I can't change the bitness of my EFI. My iMac5,1 is an early
macintel that had a 64 bit processor and a 32 bit EFI. In fact it was
released in Sept. 2006.

Got it, guess I should have asked first before assuming it could just do 64 bit. In any case if you haven't already you might want to scout around the Linux formu, might be worth your time. I've been able to get some fairly decent help there for things related to Linux, Windows, MAC & rEFInd. Good luck.

Is it possible to do what I've mentioned in the topic title? The iMac is a 64 bit machine with a 32 bit EFI.
Ivan.
