Hello running ubuntu mate. I am able to install refind on my system but when. I reboot to startup routine get nothing.I don’t see anything in bios that is helpful either. Can I install refind from usb? Any ideas apreciated.

For diagnostic purposes, I recommend you try versions 0.11.5, 0.12.0, and 0.13.0, booted from a USB flash drive or CD-R. Versions ready-made for those media are available from the downloads section. Use your firmware's boot manager to select the removable disk to boot it. If any of those versions work, you can continue using it, and install the working version to your hard disk; but please tell me which one(s) actually work and which one(s) don't. Also, please tell me what make and model computer you have.
rEFInd 0.12.0 has a known memory-management bug that was fixed, but it's possible there's another one lurking in the code, so if 0.12.0 and 0.13.0 both fail, that's likely the case. If 0.13.0 fails but 0.11.5 and 0.12.0 both work, then some other change in the latest version is causing the problem. If all three fail then it's something else entirely.
