Hello all, I have been using a puppy linux bootable cd on windows machines for a while now to read/copy off the windows machine damaged internal HDD. I am now looking to do the same on Mac machines.
Searching the net for a Mac alternative of Puppy Linux I came across Ubuntu and joinging the Ubuntu forum I was led to eEFInd so I downloaded the iso file and created a bootable CD with it via Imgburn, it works when I pop it in a mac but I am not understanding how to get the Ubuntu software [iso] unto the rEFInd CD, can anyone advise please? Thanks.

Combining the Ubuntu and rEFInd images would be difficult. There are several other options you might want to consider:
Keep using Puppy Linux -- I know of no reason why Puppy Linux would not work on a Mac, although I've not tried this myself. You might need to use it in conjunction with a boot loader or boot manager, like rEFInd, that doesn't come with Puppy Linux, but this obstacle is not insurmountable.
Skip rEFInd -- There's no need to use rEFInd to install Ubuntu on a Mac. The Ubuntu installation CD-R should boot fine on a Mac, with the caveat that, if you write it to a USB flash drive, you may need to try multiple methods before you find one that works. (See here for more on this subject.) That said, many Mac users install rEFInd to manage the dual-boot between macOS and other OSes, including Ubuntu.
Use separate disks -- You can put rEFInd on one CD-R or USB flash drive and the OS installer you want to run on another one. When you boot the rEFInd medium, it should give you options to boot the OS installer. Note that if you use optical media, you'll need two optical drives for this approach to work.
