I am searching high and low for what version of EFI is supported by which release of MacBook Pro. Specifically I am trying to determine which, if any macbook pro, supports EFI 2.0. It is an absolute requirement for my next purchase, which will need to be made soon. Anyone happen to know??

Any retina MBP ever made will have EFI 2.0. Otherwise probably not (although I didn't check every single non retina MBP - there is some cut off in 2013).

If EFI 2.0 is your only or most important requirement just get a retina one - it will definitely be OK.

    Otherwise check the model number.

The last I heard (which was before Apple's latest machines were released), all Macs used EFI 1.x; however:

    • Apple has its own internal version number, which is above 2.0. This is not the same as the EFI version number, but because it's in the same general ballpark, it leads to confusion.
    • Apple's EFI has "borrowed" some features from UEFI 2.x. Thus, although Apple's EFI identifies itself as version 1.x, it does have some 2.x features.

To learn what EFI version your computer has, you can select the about/info item on rEFInd's second row. The resulting screen shows various details about both rEFInd and the computer on which it's running, including the EFI version number.
