I installed refind on my mac pro 1.1 early 2007 ( 32 efi.. ) it instaled successfully but now is sits for approx 2 minutes on a white screeen before I get the refind menu... Anything I can do to help reboot into refind a little faster ?

Also, if you've installed unnecessary EFI drivers (in EFI/refind/refind_ia32) , you should uninstall them. At best, they'll add to your startup time; and at worst, they can hang.
One more point: If you've got lots of leftover or experimental boot loaders, you should clean them out; scanning the directories and constructing boot loader entries takes time. Normally this is a negligible effect, but on such an old computer, if you've got lots of entries, this may add a noticeable amount of time to rEFInd's startup.
