Okay, I figured out how to do configure a Mac to show both OS X and the Windows installation in BOOTCAMP every time you boot without having to hold down the Option/Alt key. The instructions provided are immensely complex for the uninitiated and will only lead to despair. So here's a link to a posting at MacRumors for how I managed to successfully set this up.
