The bootloader is installed as described in "Installing rEFInd Manually Using Windows".
With "BCDEDIT <enter>" can be seen under "Bootloader" that the path-setting for Refind as the default boot-program is correct.
Nevertheless this does not work - my pc starts as it did before installing Refind: the bootloader for Windows.
Only manual, via 6 menues, my pc can come to Refind:
1. Start-up menu: "Bootdevice options";
2. Boot-options: "boot from EFI-file";
3. Select a file system: (1 option);
4. File to boot: "EFI";
5. File to boot: "Refind";
6. File to boot: "Refind_x64.efi".</enter>
In the same way my pc can come to the bootloader for Windows, namely via
EFI \ Boot \ bootx64.efi, or
EFI \ HP \ EFI \ Boot \ bootx64.efi, or
EFI \ Microsoft \ Boot \ bootmgfw.efi .
[ N.B.: EFI \ Microsoft \ Boot \ bootmgr.efi leads to the 3rd step (Select a file system) in the above mentioned 6-step menue-hierarchy.]
About the methods in "Renaming File Manually" to rename or move files:
Which files or directories should be changed? All of the 3 above mentioned?
I suppose that at change the risk is introduced that Refind cannot load the Windows bootmanager. And I think I have to assume that Refind needs that bootmanager to start Windows systems. Or can Refind starting Windows systems without the W. bootmanager? That would be actually nicer.
For the current configuration of directories in the ESP see the attachment.
The Windows installation instructions are definitely the weakest of the ones in the rEFInd documentation. I recommend installing from Linux, if at all possible. Even if you don't have Linux installed, you should be able to do this from a Linux emergency/installation disk, such as an Ubuntu image.
