I have an old iMac 5,1 running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard dual booting with Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 - 64bit with rEFInd installed. I can boot into either OS with no issuses. However, the start up process is a bit ugly.
When I hit the power on button this is the sequence of events:
1. blank grey screen,
2. blank grey screen with blinking Folder with a Question Mark
3. rEFInd screen with OS X icon and 3 Penguins labeled Boot Linux Legacy Whole Disk, EFI, FAT32
4. If I click OS X or Boot Linux Legacy Whole Disk (first Penguin) the selected OS starts up.
5. Mac boots cleanly.
6. Linux appears with a Grub menu, then Black Screen with blinking cursor, then Ubuntu splash screen, then Black Screen, then finally Ubuntu Desktop.
I did edit the rEFInd configuration file and even included some of my own icons however I don't see my configuration. I've combed the rEFInd website and I just can't quite figure out how to fix this boot process.
I'd truly be grateful for any guidance you can provide on how to fix these issues.
Thank you!
