When I updated to 10.8.3 refind stopped functioning at boot and in order to boot to windows I had to hold option key. Eventually I reinstalled refind and got it working normally and now the 10.8.4 update is available. If it stops refind from being primary boot screen Im going to hold off this time until I hear its working.

Anyone update yet and can report on this?

i can confirm this, same situation. Updated on 10.8.4 and rEFInd disappeared.

Have you been able to get refind working again since the update or is it more difficult than just reinstalling.

Any installer that changes the Startup Disk preference will make rEFInd stop working. I think all Mac OS X updates will do that. You just need to make rEFInd the Startup program again using the proper bless command.

The rEFInd documentation describes a manual installation procedure involving bless. See, in particular, step #8 under:

    http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html#osx

Ordinarily, the command you'd use is:

sudo bless --setBoot --folder /efi/refind --file /efi/refind/refind_x64.efi

The details might vary if you installed rEFInd in an unusual way, though.
