Refind disappears each time I boot Mac OS X

I can install Refind without any problem from ubuntu and it comes up each time I reboot my machine. When I boot up Mac OS X (10.5.8) once refind disappears on boot up and the machine continues to boot into Mac OS X. What can I do about this?

If you used rEFIt at any time, look for a stray rEFItBlesser file. It may be trying to reset rEFIt as the default, and when the system can't find rEFIt, it then resets to use OS X's boot loader.
