Hello!
First of all regards for rEFInd.. a very good bootloader!
I have a "stupid" problem with my MSI laptop and I think you can help me.
My MSI GT72 6QD notebook has 3 modes to boot:
LEGACY
UEFI with CSM
UEFI
Maybe I am remembering wrong, but I remember that in "UEFI with CSM" mode it could boot BOTH legacy (mbr) bot UEFI pendrives.
Now it does not.
I can boot legacy pendrive in "UEFI with CSM" mode only by using rEFInd with the deep legacy option on.
What can have been modified in UEFI variables and how can I restore this functionality?
Obviously I already tried flashing bios to previous versions, do a full flash, reset with the pin, erase bios memory, etc etc
I am almost sure it's a uefi variable or a "driver setting" and it must have got modified when I tried out a few UEFI shells.
My notebook works well anyhow and I can boot from LEGACY mbr pendrives in LEGACY mode or in "UEFI with CSM" but using rEFInd.
But I am curious what has happened and how to restore it.
Or maybe I am just crazy?!
Regards,
(a very perplexed) Zibri :D
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
You may have simply forgotten to set the scanfor line in rEFInd, which needs to have the appropriate option to boot from BIOS/CSM/legacy devices -- hdbios, biosexternal, or cd, for internal disks, external disks, and optical discs, respectively.
