I have late 2008 MacBook Pro. One partition has Snow Leopard and another Lion. I install form Snow Leopard and it works. But just once.

    Any ideas?

i tried using the esp option, but then nothing would show, just the grey screen. (no refind) I used the option key to go back into Snow Leopard and installed refind without esp again. Same result. Only works once. (then it reverts back to booting into Snow Leopard)

I just installed refind from Lion. Same result.

If you mean that on the second boot you're reverting to a direct boot of OS X, then the most likely cause is a leftover installation of rEFItBlesser, as detailed in the rEFInd documentation:

    http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html

Search the page for the string "rEFItBlesser" for details.

Yes that was it. Thank you for the quick reply.
(and thanks for making rEFInd. I just sent you a few bucks because I really do appreciate this)

I'm glad that worked for you, and thanks for the donation!
