Just today I did the upgrade from 10.9.2 to 10.9.3 . . . and of course that was not "friendly" to rEFInd . . . . I have a triple boot MBPro from '10 . . . 1st disk is 10.6.8, 2nd is 10.9.3--rEFInd is installed in this partition . . . and 3rd is Xubuntu/MATE 14.04. Upon restart holding option key the OSX boot manager shows the 3 disks, and I can even log into the linux system, possibly using GRUB??? So, it's not major catastrophe, just a "glitch" . . . .
But the rEFInd manager window is not showing up when I select Disk 2, as it used to . . . so, I can get around to each of the disks, but just no options for "single user" and the other stuff from rEFInd. Anyway to "revive" it w/o re-install? Or, re-install is only way to get back to the manager window?? I think I'm in 0.7.9???
Thanks kindly for the attention,

Re-installing is the easiest way around the problem, especially if you're not too comfortable with command-line tools. Also, if you were running 0.7.9, re-installing will let you update to 0.8.2, which has a number of improvements:
Thanks for the fast reply, might be easier to re-install the updated version . . . I was trying to save mental effort/reading time . . . but such is life. I have done the drag n drop into Terminal window method . . . can't remember all the details of it . . . but I can't complain about the easyness of that method--it couldn't get too much easier. I'll look at the "bless" method, but I thought I saw something there from you about caution(s) on using "bless" in OSX???? Anyway, appreciate the reply . . . so far the rEFInd is a nice update on rEFIt . . . .

Delete the EFI directory from your machine and rerun the refind-bin-0.8.2/ install.sh in terminal.
It will reinstall the rEFInd things that changed during your upgrade.
If you had previously made changes to the refind.conf file, be sure to copy it before the reinstall so you can paste it back without having to modify the new one all over again.

Also, don't boot via the option key or the Startup Disk selector in OSX System preferences.
Only use rEFInd or it will "unbless" the rEFInd boot loader.

@Movlas: Just following up on this "only use rEFInd"--for the first couple of reboots the rEFInd window came up first and I used that to select the disk/OS that I wanted to use . . . then today, restarting brought me to the first disk with 10.6.8 . . . (the one that is in front of the 10.9.3 Disk that has rEFInd installed, so in the HFS+ volume) . . . and I tried to reboot it sevral times, but only using the option key gets me to the OSX boot manager . . . and then I can select the "EFI disk" . . . which then takes me to the rEFInd manager . . . for which I could then select any of the three options . . . . So, that is the way it was working before, it then followed your suggestion for a bit, but I did not "unbless" or use the option key or Startup Disk selector . . . but we fell back to needing the option key to get to Disk Two and/or the rEFInd window. That's more or less as I wanted it . . . .

OK, thanks also for your comments . . . haven't had a chance to try anything yet. I'm not exactly sure where I would find the "EFI directory" in OSX . . . this would be an "upgrade" on an existing install . . . . I haven't personally made any changes to the refind.conf file . . . .
But, in terms of the "boot via option key" . . . that just is part of the "dual/triple boot syndrome" that carries over from PPC . . . . But I do know that "Startup Disk selector" does do damage to Yaboot or Grub . . . . However, in my present set up, refind is loaded in front of disk two, so disk one is the default system . . . if I don't hold the option key . . . it drops right into disk one 10.6.8 system . . . .
Anyway, have to find the time to make some adjustment, either "bless" or re-install . . . other stuff to do . . . .
e.e.p.
PS: Found the "EFI" folder/directory . . . so easy enough to "trash" it, or, before trashing, try for "bless"-ing of what's there.
PPS: I was able to follow the instructions for "blessing" my already perfectly fine install of 0.7.9 . . . and it actually worked . . . first time out. There were some issues in OSX w/ not recognizing me as "sudo" but it went through. If it didn't I was ready to trash the old and bring in the new, etc. Thanks again very kindly for the reply . . . .

http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/revisions.html
If you prefer not to update, though, you can re-enable your old rEFInd with the
bless
command, as described in the manual installation instructions:http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html#osx
See step #8. (The details of the command you use depend on how you installed rEFInd to begin with -- to the OS X root volume or to the ESP.)
