I'm wondering what went wrong. If the style was missing or unreadable, you'd get
the pretty obvious message:

failed to access style data

If the main database was entirely missing or unreadable, you should also get a
message along the lines of:

failed to connect to database server

This patch certainly doesn't hurt, but does it really provide a clue to the
nature of the problem? I'd rather like to know why the refdbib error message
was useless, or why it didn't show up.
