After installing that file, saxon happily processed the document to 
completion and the make process proceeded to conclusion.  I've tested 
both html and pdf output pathways and both work.  Thanks for the fix.

P.S. Does this mean I'm the first person to try refdb/xml/saxon (at 
least beyond giving up when saxon failed)?
