Actually, if you like PHP, why not port the PerlClient module to PHP?  
 From what I gather from Markus, this ought to be pretty simple to do, 
and I know a few people who have passed through here have been 
interested in just that.  Maybe they could help if they're still 
around?

Oh, and you should learn XSLT; it's quite useful ;-)
