In brief, if you don't have Text::Iconv handy, some Perl scripts that rely on this module will fail to run (and they will tell you so). > # make [...] > refdbd.c:40:54: dbi/dbi.h: No such file or directory This is the real problem that screws up your compilation. Most likely the include files end up in a directory which is not in the default search path of your compiler.
