Good Day! I am trying to export my references to place in Zotero to take advantage of the add-on capabilities for writing articles. However, every attempt to export the records from my www.refbase.org<http://www.refbase.org> account leaves me with a 0 byte file, regardless of file format. Only the Save citation tool works. In which case, it is not usable to import into other citation managers. Please help! Sean |

Hi, i know this was discussed in the past[1][2] but i couldn't find anything in the code. That's why i added very basic support myself (in a quick & dirty way). The patch against the bleeding-edge branch is attached. It just replaces the check_login function with an LDAP authorization and adds the user to refbase's SQL tables when he's logging in the first time. Only default values are used. I'm not sure how a proper solution should look like. This one is just a hack. This is not officially supported. When a user account is created in refbase, the password is hashed before being stored in the auth table & various default options for the user are set (and these are also stored in the user* tables). The best course of action for you is likely to make a custom version of 'user_validation.php' that imports the data you have. A few other details, as you may need to clean your import list: refbase uses email addresses as usernames (the various email functions rely on this), splits names into first/last (though I don't think anything will break if you misuse this), and uses an institutional abbreviation for some stuff (so you'll likely want to make a default one). --Rick On Mon, Feb 16, 2015 at 6:33 AM, pixluser <pix...@gm...> wrote: > Hello, > > I need to import 200 users from an excel file to the refbase database. > It’s a 3 columns file with : name, user.name, password. > > Do you know how I can do that please ? > > Thanks a lot ! > > > // Lionel > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Download BIRT iHub F-Type - The Free Enterprise-Grade BIRT Server > from Actuate! Hello, I've looked through the refbase documentation and the mail list archives and can't seem to find an answer ... I would like to add some text to the top part of the index.php page (as it appears)--right by the line "Welcome! This database provides access to scientific literature." Can I do this? If so, what file would I need to modify? Thank you very much, engelk |

You're correct: you edit index.php & remove the userlogin div (lines ~123-153). Make sure you're editing the file that is being served and that neither your webserver nor your browser are giving you a cached copy of the page. --Rick On Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 3:14 PM, Engel, Kevin <EN...@gr...> wrote: > Hello, > > On the home page of Refbase, there is a gray login box on the right hand side of the screen. > > The Refbase installation I am doing is intended for the public--primarily for students at my institution. Hello, On the home page of Refbase, there is a gray login box on the right hand side of the screen. The Refbase installation I am doing is intended for the public--primarily for students at my institution. They will be searching the database only--not adding to it as well. To prevent any confusion on their part, I would like to remove that large login box (and leave the small login link higher up on the page) but my attempts to do so have not been successful. I have assumed that the file to edit was index.php, but that has not worked for me. Has anyone already done this? What do I need to edit? Thank you very much, Kevin |

Matthias replied with this advice in the past & it has worked for others: To add support for another field to the current 'simple_search.php', one would need to copy the respective elements from 'advanced_search.php' to 'simple_search.php', and change function 'extractFormElementsSimple()' (in 'search.php') accordingly. Since your current version is not working as expected, I suggest you revert to the stock version before making these modifications. --Rick |

Hello, A question ... I would like to add the Keywords and Abstract fields to the Simple Search interface. I modified simple_search.php to add those fields--and that worked fine. They now appear in the interface and everything looks good. However, when I search in simple_search using those fields, I get all the records in the database as a result (rather than the correct number)--it happens every time. I then attempted to modify search.php (within the simple_search area) to make simple_search actually search in the keywords and abstract fields--but that hasn't worked. What do I need to do to make this work? Is there another file that I need to modify? Or, do I need to modify search.php in multiple places? Thank you very much! Kevin |

Rick, that's cool. It's worked! For those like myself who only create one user and then forgot their password, here are the steps I followed thanks to Rick's help (pretty much a summary of his emails): a) Open the file *initialize/ini.inc.php* in a text editor and change the value of $addNewUsers to 'everyone'. b) Then load the *user_details.php* and create a new user in the refbase web interface. c) Go back to the initialize/ini.inc.php file and change the $adminLoginEmail value to the user email you created in the previous step. d) Then goto the 'manage users' page in your browser (*users.php*) and click the 'edit details' link for the account password you wish to reset to change the password (the one I forgot the password of in my case) e) Re-edit initialize/ini.inc.php to return the $adminLoginEmail and $addNewUsers variables. f) Delete the new user you created (if you don't need it). RIck, thanks for this. I'm obviously missing a trick here. I fall in situation "0" as I have no account I know the password for. I've edited the $addNewUser to 'everyone' as you suggested. I reloaded apache (just in case ..), closed and reopened browser (just in case ...) and pointed to users.php as you suggested. However, RefBase re-directs me to index.php and I get the usual message "*You must be logged in as admin to view any user account details!"* On 08/07/2014 18:06, Richard Karnesky wrote: > To provide some minimal level of security over passwords, they are > stored hashed and it is not trivial to "recover" a > It is possible to reset the password manually. > Because refbase's hashing process might change in the near-ish future, > the following instructions use the refbase interface to change the > password: > 0. To provide some minimal level of security over passwords, they are stored hashed and it is not trivial to "recover" a It is possible to reset the password manually. Because refbase's hashing process might change in the near-ish future, the following instructions use the refbase interface to change the password: 0. If you don't have an account you know the password for, open the file initialize/ini.inc.php in a text editor and change the value of $addNewUsers to 'everyone' and create a new user in the refbase web interface. 1. If you have an account that you know the password for, open the file initialize/ini.inc.php in a text editor and change the value of the $adminLoginEmail variable to the working account. 2. Go to the 'manage users' page in your browser (users.php) and click the 'edit details' link for the account password you wish to reset to change the password. 3. Re-edit initialize/ini.inc.php to return the $adminLoginEmail and $addNewUsers variables. --Rick On Tue, Jul 8, 2014 at 7:16 AM, Antonio <ant...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > please forgive me if this has already been answer but I have gone > through the forum history and have not found an answer. Hi, please forgive me if this has already been answer but I have gone through the forum history and have not found an answer. After a few weeks of not having logged into my refbase installation, i have now lost the admin password. I logged into the mysql "literature" database hiong i would find the password stored in it. I found the "auth" table which supposedly stores login info. Yet, when I use the password stored in that table against the admin email, it doesn't recognise it. Is the password in this table shown in encrypted form? If so, how do i recover/reset the admin password? I know I shoudl have written it down and normally do as I use a different password for each website/service but in this instance I seem to have forgot. Am i doomed to a re-installation and loss of the data? Thanks for your time Antonio |

I recently installed ref base and had some problems with importing DOIs. However, i was able to finally solve the issue by using some php files of an older refbase version. I cannot quite tell exactly what files. You may change the files that are used for the DOI import. Hope that helps a bit On 30.06.2014, at 17:09, Engel, Kevin <EN...@Gr...> wrote: > Hello, > > I recently installed refbase-0.9.6 on a hosted server. Hello, I recently installed refbase-0.9.6 on a hosted server. The installation went fine, I was able to customize the interface, etc.-everything looks good. I tried to import some bibliographic records using PMIDs and DOIs; every time I try that (whether one record or a string of records), I get this error message - Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in e:\websites\1414\strategian.com\refbase\refbase\includes\classes\org\simplepie\SimplePie.compiled.php on line 420 In doing some investigation, I see a lot of comments that this could be a conflict between PHP5 and PHP4. The hosted server currently runs with PHP4. Is this true? Or, is there another way to solve this error? Thank you! engelk |

We're unlikely to ever release a version with "file://" or relative links (as it is relatively rare that the only client will be on the same machine as the server). However, the file links should already work using Zotero on the same machine. So, one simple work-around would be to import them into Zotero & then export them from Zotero. If you'd like to change the way files are exported in your own version of refbase, you'd need to change the $URLprefix variable in includes/modsxml.inc.php However: I don't know, off-hand, how bibutils will handle the re-formed links. --Rick |

Hi All, i've just discovered refbase and I think its really great to manage huge bibliographic collections like mine. I was using Zotero which I really like but I think it get cluncky with a huge collection. Also I don't really like the idea that my data is hosted on a third party server, even if just bibliographic references ... so now I have my own little server :-) One thing that i would really like to get straight is the export function. I would like to export to bib so that I can import in Zotero/JabRef but preserving the links to the PDF docs where availble. At the moment I have my "files" folder symlinked to a network folder that can only be read by the www user. I would like to export the *bib file but maintaining relative paths to the PDF files so that when in JabRef I can actually click on the PDF icon. At the moment this doesn't appear to be possible because you have an absolute path under the "file" tab in the exported *bib file. So, instread of having "./files/anderson/2013/Myfile_2013.pdf" it has "http://127.0.0.1:999//files/anderson/2013/Myfile_2013.pdf" which is not very useful when you are exporting to a different PC or network given that my server is not open to the public. Is there a way of doing this in the export phase or do I need to come up with some script that changes the strings for me in the *bib file? Regards Antonio |

Thanks for your comments. To be honest, I'm not sure what to do here. I believe this issue was likely fixed by PCRE 6.5 (released in Feb 2006). According to: http://www.php.net/manual/en/pcre.installation.php this would mean that PHP 5.2 and above and 4.4.7 are likely to work with the bundled versions of the PCRE library. It is also possible for PHP to use non-bundled PCRE versions and we have been able to point to refbase running on some of these older versions of PHP. Perhaps we should have a footnote recommending modern versions or specify the minimum PCRE library we'd like? --Rick |
