In The Beginning

They (whoever they are) say one should blog about the project on the project blog instead of their own blog. I think they are wrong. If you do that the only people who will find the blog are the people who already found your project. Kind of defeats getting the word out. As a compromise I'm going to give you a thumbnail sketch of what this project is about and then link back to the numerous blog posts about the journey.

Qt has really alienated the bulk of its OpenSource user base killing off OpenSource LTS versions along with deleting core functionality with little warning. This has lead the bulk of the market to look for new OpenSource alternatives to Qt. CopperSpice, being a fork of Qt 4.8 sounded like an interesting step. They changed quite a bit though so it wasn't like you could just take an involved Qt application and straight compile against this library.

Ordinarily my go to tire kicking application is my Lottery Tracker. I used it when writing this
book as well as some others in the series. It's a simple general business application consisting of

You can even get fancy and add printing if you want.

At the time this battle with Qt began I was waxing nostalgic for COBOL. So much so I began writing a book on Gnu COBOL which got derailed by a book on GUI Emacs due to my search for an EDT like editor for COBOL. Then I stumbled into Diamond which was a kick-the-tires application for CopperSpice created by the founders of CopperSpice.

That lead to the following journey:
