Since regular expressions are currently missing from the search and replace functionality, the more heavily I depend on the different operators that are supported.
The first one I tried is "Starts With". For example, I search for "ab" in the first column (a lot or entries here start with "ab"), I set the operator to "Starts With", direction to "forward" and ignore case to "true". I highlight the first row and start searching. Unfortunately nothing is found: "ab was not found in the view".
I tried other operators and they seem to work (but still no exhaustive testing done). For example, "Contains" works as expected.
