Hi, I compiled  (qt)recordmydesktop 0.3.6 successfully on ubuntu gutsy. But after starting qt-rmd the cpu load goes 100%. Is there an option to disable the screenpreview?

Capturing works really fine, but the preview eats the damn cpu, and normal working is not possible.

Currently , there is no way of disabling the update of
the preview. But this shouldn't stand in the way of
capturing, since the preview is disabled when recording starts
or when qt-recordMyDesktop's window is minimized/hidden.

This part definitely needs improvement, as Qt's method of
capturing screenshots is excruciatingly slow and the current
      solution is not satisfactory.

But, since you are compiling from source you can make a simple
modification. In src/rmdSelectThumb.py, line 33, you can change
the default value for the update_interval variable.
      The current line is:
      __init__(self,parent,caller,area_return,hidden,update_interval=500):
and you can make it something like this
      __init__(self,parent,caller,area_return,hidden,update_interval=5000):

The number is msecs and it can be as large as you like.
Then simply reinstall and it should work better for you.
