#7 Endless encoding

No

When recording something with gtk-recordmydesktop 0.3.6 which is longer than about one hour it doesn't stop encoding. With on-the-fly encoding the cpu usage suddenly jumps from ~50% to constant 100%.
When encoding after recording the progressbar jumps to a value greater than 100% and doesn't stop encoding.
The video file is getting bigger and bigger with a standing picture (viewed with mplayer).

Just practising my voodoo fortune-telling skills :) ,
can you please tell me which ones of the bellow are correct:

    1) You are using a 64bit system
    2) You are recording without sound
    3) The problem starts at ~ 1 hour and 11,5 minutes of recording

    Thanks,
    John.

I'm using a 32bit system (Debian unstable) and recording without sound.
I don't know the exact time, but the time you mentioned could be right, I'll test it again now.

Would it be a workaround to enable sound though nothing will be recorded?

Just tested it again. The CPU load increases to 100% after about 1 hour 15 minutes (live-encoding, without sound).

    Ok, the 64 bit guess was a mistake(I was thinking 2* (2^32) ).

Anyway, I think that I have identified the issue. There is an
integer value (pdata->avd) which is used to synchronize the audio and
video streams(video increments, audio decrements). So, when sound is
disabled, the value keeps incrementing until it reaches the maximum
value and folds to a MAX negative. This makes recordMyDesktop assume
that video capture is left a lot behind, which has as a result the
    symptoms you described.

I'll look into it more thoroughly tomorrow and will post back as soon
as the fix is on the cvs(it should be a simple one-liner).

    Thanks,
    John.-

I believe this bug is now resolved on the CVS.
(The reason was overflow of a signed integer value
    like I said bellow).

The changes will appear in the next release.

If for some reason the problem reappears or persists,
feel free to post relevant information here and I'll
    reopen this item.

Thank you for reporting this issue.

    John.-
