#52 Very low frame rate when recording using ATI Mobility RADEON

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and when I try to record using either the command line interface or any program that uses recordmydesktop (recorditnow, kdenlive, gtkrecordmydesktop) it causes my system to slow a lot and the resulting video output has a very low frame rate. Sometimes lower than 1 frame per second. When disabling the graphics driver the problem goes away, but I'd like there to be a way for me to make screencasts without disabling the driver each time. Computer specs are provided below.
