look at the aibots project, they use the tcp stack to connect the bots to the "arena" host, i think this is much more usefull than the system rtb uses.

aibots system is much easier to understand and it seems to work much faster

think about it, i used aibots some time, but they did not improve the game ...
so i looked for something similar

    TCP sockets usually tend to be slower than pipes between processes
    running on the same machine.
    I do not know aibots, but you have to consider that RealTimeBattle has a
    very sophisticated physical model (that is main reason for slower
    performance). This physical model is also a reason why RTB is sometimes
    hard to understand, but you can build challenging robots in this way.

    As you have noticed, the development of RTB was frozen a long time too,
    but in the next two weeks, we will release a new version that will provide
    many interesting resources and will fix some problems you have
    addressed.
