I would like to be able to track fiducial markers on the top of objects on a solid table, and then project over them also from above. With a projector and camera mounted on the ceiling. Has anyone had success with this configuration?
I'm not sure if the projected image might interfere with the markers, or should adding an infrared filter resolve that?

Sure, it's essentially the same. If your projector emits IR noise (which
it normally doesn't) a IR filter should resolve that.
The main reason why it's better to project from below is:
- no hand shadows
- nothing in the way of seeing the markers (hands)
