No

I move the renaming of the project from re-alpine to realpine.

Rationale:
puns and abiguous naming of software have a long tradition in hacker culture.

By removing the hyphen, the name could either interpreted as re(born)-alpine, suggesting the alpine heritage as originally suggested by Andraz Levstik, or real-pine suggesting UW pine heritage.

Also, real pine smells nice.

Now, I know it's immature, trivial, unimportant, not worth the effort etc, but please, could we at least have the /binary/ be called realpine instead of re-alpine? To me, hyphenated commands feel very awkward when they could be one word.

PS: I don't speak autotools very well but I would be willing to try to come up with the necessary changes if this is at all considered.

Well the binary will probably just keep on being called alpine

    This is MRC.

For what it's worth, I like the idea of "realpine".

I would like to request that, in spite of renaming, the PC version retain the photo of Mt. Rainier in its splash screen. I took that photo several years ago, and donated it to the alpine effort. However, it might be nice to use my original photo. The one in the splash screen got cropped, zoomed, and some clouds were edited out.

I liked the suggestion thus requested a project rename to realpine.

I agree that realpine offers more and a nice set of connotations.
I also agree with ruskie that the binaries should not be renamed, i.e. should be _alpine_ if -- and apparently this is the case -- the "realpine" project/code will be what the name suggests :) I assume "realpine" _is_ Alpine's successor.

I second the idea of not using re-alpine but with a different naming suggestion.

considered calling it alpine+ instead of re-alpine? Not only to shorten it or to make it top alphabetic list but also shows you do it better (with a plus symbol) (positive) instead of doing it again (negative, "why yet-another???")

we are not real pine, right?

The Re- means reborn and it is that. As for Alpine+ it means nothing and would just get lost in the noise.

And this is not about doing it again. This is simply continuing where it was left off.

As I don't even remotely know if the project will ever get renamed it makes little sense to argue about it now.
