here are the steps to reproduce this on my touchpad running webOS 3.0.5, attempting to connect to my laptop running windows vista configured to accept remote connections.

1. Open client, at "please enter hostname of the rdp server" prompt type in my username and ip address information.
2. Hit enter

result: "connecting" appears on the screen briefly, then the application closes/crashes.. No error message appears on the screen. No connection is made to the vista machine.

It sounds like the connection is being rejected by the remote machine. Is NLA disabled. Aka "allow connections from any version of remote desktop" selected?

If NLA is disabled (usually having it enabled results in broken pipe messages) you might try rebooting the touchpad.
