I don't know about the home edition, but if you are using professional,
then using rdesktop and a linux box you can connect to your xp box and use
both machines from the linux box.
To check if this will work for you, right click on 'My Computer' and select
properties. If you have a remote tab in the properties screen, make sure
you have the 'allow remote users to connect to this computer' checked. Then
click on the 'select remote users' button to make sure you can remotely
access the machine. If you already have access, then right above the 'add'
button it will show your user name and say you already have access. If you
don't, then you will need to add yourself.
Back on your linux computer run rdesktop with a similar command:
rdesktop -g 1024x968 -a 16 computername &
you will note that I used a non-standard resolution for my screen. this
allows me to set the screen size so that I have some extra space on the
monitor for the linux application bar and some space on the side to see
with -a 16, you get a really nice display in full color, as long as your
linux box supports 16 bit color or better.
when managing windows 2003 servers, I have found the -0 option to be an
excellent energy saver, allowing me to run console mode sessions without
getting my but up off the chair and walking to the freezing server room...
even works well in parallel with vnc.

Subject: [rdesktop-users] Windows XP Home Edition and Rdesktop
I have a home LAN on which one PC is running Windows XP Home Edition
upgrade and another PC running Linux Mandrake 9.2 on which I recently
installed the rpm for rdesktop. I ultimately want
to use rdesktop to run Windows apps from Mandrake over the LAN.
Some of the reading I've done suggests that the above mentioned version of
XP and it's accompanying Terminal Server is not accessible except via a
Windows XP Professional box.
Does anyone know about this?
Also, does anyone have a similar LAN setup with some
experience on this they'd like to share?
