Similarly, the licensing architecture (section 1.3.1) and license PDU flow (section 1.3.3) for personal terminal servers exist in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 client operating systems only. For previous versions of Windows, the personal terminal server does not require a CAL and sends a license error message (see [MS-RDPBCGR] section 2.2.1.12.1.3) with the dwErrorCode field set to STATUS_VALID_CLIENT (0x00000007)." It you are able to change the licensing mode to "User" on your Windows Machine then this issue goes away as no file needs to be written. Regards Lee -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Anna Martynova (broom_) Date: 2011-04-27 01:34 Message: I can confirm that problem still exists with rdesktop 1.7.0. If I connect to Windows Server 2008, all is going okay (but for some reason rdesktop doesn't even create ~/.rdesktop directory). But if I connect to Windows Server 2008R2, such message appears: disconnect: Internal licensing error Deleting ~/.rdesktop directory and creating a file with the same name is a workaround (prevents rdesktop from storing license), but of course it is not a solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Chaskiel Grundman (cg2v) Date: 2011-04-21 09:30 Message: I have tested rdesktop 1.7.0 and it behaves the same way. Similarly, the licensing architecture (section 1.3.1) and license PDU flow (section 1.3.3) for personal terminal servers exist in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 client operating systems only. For previous versions of Windows, the personal terminal server does not require a CAL and sends a license error message (see [MS-RDPBCGR] section 2.2.1.12.1.3) with the dwErrorCode field set to STATUS_VALID_CLIENT (0x00000007)." This most likely is the source of the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=381347&aid=2817779&group_id=24366 |

If necessary, select the root of the configuration tree on the left panel (that is: click "Terminal Services Configuration"). Then click "Terminal Services Licensing Mode" (under "Licensing", on main panel) and change it to "Per User". The problem is gone! ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Lee Coles (leecoles) Date: 2011-09-26 03:21 Message: Dear All I came across this issue myself and it seems to only occur if you Windows Terminal Server has its Client Access Licences in "Device" mode. I assuming in this mode a file needs to be written locally on Linux and this is where the issue comes. It you are able to change the licensing mode to "User" on your Windows Machine then this issue goes away as no file needs to be written.
