I have a working port of rdesktop to VAX/VMS 6.1, based on the version 1.2.
It seems to work ok, but there are speed issues.
If you have a word document with a lot of ............ characters, and that
is repeated 10 to 20
times on a page, the drawing speed slows down to a crawl. It can take a
couple of minutes to
refresh, then the same time again if you scroll up or down. (On the
VAXstations we use,
4090s, the Xserver goes to 100% CPU for this time).
I was wondering if caching an image of the text2 instruction glyphs would be
possible. At the
moment each glyph is retrieved and drawn one at a time. I would be creating
a long thin image for a
left to right text-implicit-x operation. The image (or a data area that is
extracted from an image)
would be stored in the text cache.
Can anyone tell me whether drawing the text to an image, then doing a
if the text is drawn again will work? As far as I can see the text2
procedure stores strings in a cache
and retrieves them. I have got as far as trying to save the image, but
getting it drawn back again
is getting complicated (translation: funny patterns on screen and occasional
